You’ve reached the San Antonio chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists, the oldest organization representing journalists in the United States. We host area networking events and workshops and put on a large, annual fundraiser called Gridiron, an SNL-style political satire show that raises money for scholarships for local student journalists.
Speaking of our annual major fundraiser, Gridiron 2019: Enemies of the State is nearly ready for prime time. Or as ready as a group of journalists-and-communications-experts-turned-amateur-thespians is ever going to be … Come join us! The show is Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Texas A&M University – San Antonio’s fine theater. We also let in daring folks willing to watch our dress rehearsal — at a reduced fee — on Friday, Oct. 11.
It’s a high-spirited, fast-paced show, sometimes rowdy and a little bawdy, but always fun. Tickets are still on sale for both performances. Click here to buy them.
Let us let you in on a little secret: Julián Castro, former San Antonio mayor, former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and current presidential candidate, will be making a cameo!
All fun aside, the money we raise with Gridiron funds one of the most important parts of our mission: supporting and encouraging the next generation of truth-tellers. Click on the scholarships tab on the home page and you’ll find profiles of current and past scholarship recipients. We’re proud of these young people and believe you will be, too.
